According to the Public Relations Department of RWT Company, the recent visit of the company’s CEO, accompanied by several senior executives from other affiliated companies of the Railway Employees’ Savings Fund of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and was carried out considering the significant role of loading and unloading terminals in international trade and railway transportation.
The visit aimed to inspect the logistics facilities, available capacities, and infrastructure of Sarakhs Special Economic Zone as a strategic connection point between Central Asian countries, China, and Russia, with the purpose of facilitating transit operations and the export of goods to targeted companies.
Engineer Ashouri and the company’s senior managers also closely reviewed the ongoing activities in the region and visited companies operating in the field of international freight transportation.
One of the major advantages of this zone is its broad-gauge railway lines connected to the rail networks of Central Asian countries, allowing trains to enter the zone without the need for bogie exchange. In addition, standard-gauge railway lines connected to Iran’s national rail network facilitate the transit, export, and import of goods to and from Central Asian countries.

During the visit, meetings were also held with CEOs of cargo-owning companies and operators of the Special Economic Zone to discuss joint cooperation opportunities aimed at expanding international freight transportation.
Sarakhs Special Economic Zone was established in 2019 on an area of approximately 5,200 hectares in Sarakhs County. Benefiting from skilled human resources, diverse equipment, various types and capacities of loading and unloading facilities—including platforms, freight yards, bulk cargo pits, conveyor systems, and other infrastructure—as well as computerized management systems, the zone’s terminal plays an important role not only in improving operational efficiency but also in attracting foreign investment and promoting regional economic development.
The combination of these advantages has significantly contributed to improving railway transportation efficiency by enhancing network capacity and increasing the commercial speed of freight trains.
The strategic importance of this zone for RWT Company at the international level is aligned with the company’s objectives for growth and expansion of freight transit in 2024. Accordingly, since the beginning of the year, senior executives of the company have made several visits to the country’s southern ports and special economic zones and have held numerous meetings and negotiations with officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, customs authorities, and partner companies regarding cooperation in developing international freight transportation to and from CIS countries, Russia, and China.
